MAINE COAST MOTORCYCLE TRAINING COURSE

The Maine Coast Motorcycle Safety Education Course is approved by the Maine State Bureau of Motor Vehicles Driver Education Unit. The program teaches awareness and appreciation of safe, careful and skillful motorcycle operation. We strive to provide a knowledgeable environment where the student will leave with the skills necessary to safely and confidently enjoy the sport of motorcycling.
The MMSEC permit course consists of 8 hours of instruction. When the course is completed and the exam passed the student is issued the necessary paperwork to visit the Department of Motor Vehicles branch in their area and receive a permit to legally ride a motorcycle in the state of Maine.

Cost: Tuition is $65 (prepaid) or $75 (register day of session).

All classes are 2 day, evening, 4 hours each night from 5:30-9:30.
Location: Breakwater Room at the Maine Lighthouse Museum, One Park Drive, Rockland Maine
Maximum class capacity is twenty-four (24).
Student Requirements & Responsibilities:
- Is at least sixteen (16) years of age at the start of the motorcycle rider course.
- Furnish proof of age when enrolling in a Motorcycle Rider Education Program if not in
possession of a valid State of Maine driver’s license. Original Birth Certificate will be
needed to verify age. Please bring with to show to instructor prior to class.
- Furnish proof of completion of an approved program of driver education, as described in
29-A MRSA, Section 1351, if Sixteen (16) years of age and not in possession of a valid
Maine driver’s license.
- Replacement fee(s) for any damages done to property/books will be the responsibility of the
student/parent.
- Students must bring a pen and highlighter to class.
Student Evaluation: Practice test scores, class assignments will evaluate student’s knowledge.
The text used for practice test will be from the State of Maine Motorist Handbook and
Study Guide, MSF Motorcycle Skill test practice guide and the student workbook.
A grade of 80 % will be required for the permit test and the successful completion of the
course.
Basic Rider Course (BRC)
Consists of 15 hours of classroom and hands-on learning to ride a motorcycle. By taking this Course you will not have to take the motor vehicles evaluation test at the DMV. When you pass the skills evaluation, that qualifies as the state road test.

Course is held in Belfast, Maine
The cost of the 15 hours license course is $300.00 per student. $150.00 (non refundable) to reserve a seat. This fee does not included the fee at the DMV.
Upon receipt of either entire fee or deposit ($150.00) you will be sent confirmation sheet with directions and what to bring with you, a waiver form and refund and cancellation policy.
Full payment is required 3 weeks prior to class.
All motorcycles are provided by the school to be used for training only.
Students must be at least 16 years old.
Students must have parental permission and proof of completed Drivers education course if under 18 years of age.
Students must be present the full 15 hours.
Student are encouraged to bring something to write with and something to write on for notes and a highlighter.
Students are encouraged to bring snacks/lunch.
Bottled water and soft drinks are provided by school.
Students must receive an 80% on the written test to pass this course.
This course is limited to 12 students per course, therefore this is first come/first serve. Sorry, I cannot reserve a spot for you unless a deposit is received.
Experienced Rider Course (ERC)
Opportunity to hone your skills and fine-tune the mental skills needed for survival in traffic.
ERC covers protective gear, rider responsibility, motorcycle inspection and care, the effects of alcohol and other drugs on riding, and includes an optional skill evaluation and knowledge test.

To qualify for participation in the ERC, you must be 21 years of age or older and have a temporary motorcycle permit or endorsement on your driver's license.
Cost is $75.00, must be paid in full 3 weeks prior to class.
Riders must provide a street-legal bike that passes a safety inspection (T-clocs).
Students must also provide proof of liability insurance and proof of ownership of the motorcycle. If the motorcycle is not owned by the rider, a notarized, written approval from the owner to use the motorcycle in the course must be provided.

Course is held in Belfast, Maine
We will be having a seasoned rider Course for riders over 50 that want to see where their skills are before getting too far into the season. This class is limited to 12 people. Call for dates.
Maine Coast Motorcycle course instructors are experienced riders certified by the state of Maine. Together they have over 50 years of motorcycling experience. Some additional specialized training include: first aid, motorcycle accident scene management classes, both basic and advanced, and the Motorcycle Safety Foundations experienced riders course.
